Today I want to present you one of my favorite movies. And surprise surprise: it’s a documentary movie: “Searching for Sugarman”. It’s a music documentary who tells the unbelievable story of the musician and poet Sixto Diaz Rodriguez, who didn’t have any success with his songs in the USA in the 70s but gained a lot of popularity in South Africa during the Apartheid-Regime as a protest singer against the establishment.
The film tells his story who was assumed to commit suicide life on stage. The film is full of good music and portrays Rodriguez who was a humble and poor musician from the working class. It draws a picture of a very humble and shy man with a simple lifestyle and without any prima donna behaviour.
He plays with his songs in the same league as Bob Dylan who he often was compared with. I like his poetic and deep songs very much and he himself is in his humanity something like an example for me.
